Multi-platinum rock band GREEN DAY will hit the road in August with support of AFI, and will take center stage at  Quai Jacques-Cartier (Old Port) on August 21st.

This is the second leg of the band’s critically acclaimed U.S. tour in support of their current gold-certified album "21st Century Breakdown", which won a 2010 Grammy Award for “Best Rock Album.”

Critics raved about the first leg of the 21st Century Breakdown tour, which launched in North America in July of 2009, before continuing on to Europe in the fall. “As if releasing a wave of energy that had been building up during their four-year hiatus from touring, Green Day poured all their heart and soul into a powerhouse two-hour set,” said Rolling Stone, while Spin noted that “the band's relationship with its audience is disarmingly real, a cross generational give-and-take that's as punk as any Gilman Street scroungers today.”

Released by Reprise Records on May 15th, 2009, "21st Century Breakdown" debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard Top 200 chart, as well as on the Rock, Active Rock, and Alternative charts. The album has spawned two hit singles, Know Your Enemy, which has been certified gold, and the platinum-selling 21 Guns, whose video won three 2009 MTV Video Music Awards, including “Best Rock Video.” The band took home their second American Music Award for “Favorite Alternative Music Artist” in November.

Green Day, which is singer-guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt, and drummer Tre Cool, are also gearing up for the Broadway premiere of American Idiot — the critically acclaimed stage version of Green Day’s chart-topping 2004 album.  Directed by Tony Award-winning director Michael Mayer (Spring Awakening), who collaborated on the story with Armstrong, the show opens at the St. James Theatre on April 20th.

On July 18, 2009, the band delivered one their most electrifying performances ever at the Bell Centre.
